My donation journey
Becoming a living donor is a long and tedious process, but this is all to insure that both you and Kenny are safe. Although it ended up not working out for me to be a donor, I don't regret one bit going through the process. Holly, the living donor coordinator, was amazing helping me navigate through the process. I assure you that everything is done with your safety in mind. You may think that Kenny is the priority in the process since it is he that needs the kidney, but it is actually your safety that is the top priority. They will not allow you to donate if they think there is any undue risk in doing so.
As the surgeon put it to me very bluntly when I asked about this, "If we mess you up then all we've done is turned one unhealthy person into two unhealthy people, and
that's the last thing we'd ever want to do."
I went through the entire process up until the surgery itself.
If you are even thinking about possibly donating, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. I will be candid, open and honest, about the process. Please email me here.
